Who are you Wednesday!

4 comments

Bree here with a little twist to our typical Who are you Wednesday post!

This week I decided that instead of interviewing one person, I'd take the opportunity to interview the whole team, and let me tell you, there are some characters in this bunch!
But I love each one of these ladies, and I appreciate all the hard work they do for Trixie!

What I did was set up a bit of a survey to find out what kind of things they liked to scrap with, and maybe just maybe, their thoughts line up with yours. It was also interesting to see the diversity of some of their answers!

And well, it might be a good hint as to what we'll see coming from Trixie down the line? Who knows!

My first Question: What is your favorite Trixie Scraps Kit?

The rest were one vote each for

What element{s} can you not live without?

Buttons = 0
Flowers = 12%
Stitches = 21%
Ribbon/Ric Rac = 9%
Papers = 15%
Staples = 9%
String = 9%
Alphas = 6%
GIVE ME ALL OF IT! = 18%

Sometimes there are themes that you just have to have, what kind of themes do you love?

6 of my sweet teammates are just kit junkies. They want it all!!!
7 of them are pretty specific when they go looking for things:
  • Disney Colors
  • Fourth of July {That's me!}
  • I love Halloween Kits. Love em.
  • Definitely red, white, and blue kits. I'm a patriotic kit junkie. BTW, kit junkie fits too...
  • I'm an equal opportunity kit buyer, but I tend to gravitate toward anything Disney, zoo, girly or beach/tropical (though I don't have a lot of pictures to go with them.) If a kit has bright colors it has a tendency of finding it's way into my cart, too.
  • anything sweet and lovey dovey!
  • pretty much any kind of princess/girly kit with lots of pink!
The last one is my sweet Fran, who is a smart alek {that I adore} and selected: I think you're nuts Bree, I don't need to have anything!

What color seems to be your most favorite for scrapping with?

Red = 14%
Green = 14%
Blue = 43%
Pink = 14%
Brown = 14%
No one regularly uses: Clear, orange, yellow, purple, black, and white

What program do you use to scrap with?

4 of us use Photoshop CS {any version}
9 of us use Photoshop Elements
1 of us uses Paint Shop Pro

1 of us uses Photoshop in Japanese!!
Another uses Elements to scrap and CS3 for shadows
Other programs: Corel Draw and Picasa
Fran uses Internet Explorer. She's just that good!

Aren't we all so different? I thought so too! :D

Well, and we have one more thing for you today! Fran was awesome {SEE! I LOVE HER!} and made up for all of you a desktop for July! :D She's fantastic like that, and so is this desktop! :)

I hope you have a great rest of the week, and that you're able to have some fun scrapping too!

Triple T Tuesday

0 comments
Happy Tuesday Everyone! It’s time for another Triple T Tuesday tutorial for you. Have you ever seen one of those beautiful photos using a vignette (pronounced vin-yet) effect and wondered how you could do that yourself? Of course, you could go searching for an action to use on your photos, but it’s so easy to do, you should try it yourself! This tutorial is for Photoshop, but I’m sure it can be easily done in other photo editing software as well.

Here’s an example of a photo with a vignette effect:

and here’s the original:

Using a vignette effect, the image fades out toward the corners. It’s most commonly seen as a fade out to black, but white can also be used. The vignette can be a powerful element of a photo because it has the natural tendency to draw the eye toward the center of the photo. Let’s get started and see how you can create this great effect for your own photos.

Step 1: Open any image in Photoshop. It can be a black and white, color or sepia image. This effect can be beautiful on black and white or sepia.

Step 2: Create a new layer. Now select the Elliptical Marquee Tool. In the feather option, choose how much you want the vignette to be feathered away from the edge of your selection. You can choose any number up to 250. The higher the number, the more fade you will get. This is something you can play with to see what looks good for your photo. For my example below, I have used 250. Now create your circle, oval or rectangle marquee depending on what you want to highlight in your photo.

TIP: Remember that if your Marquee Tool didn’t put your circle, etc. exactly where you want it, you can move it by clicking inside the selection and moving it around. Also, if you want to make a perfect circle or square, hold down the shift key while dragging out the marquee.

Step 3: Choose Select --> Inverse to select the outer edge of the photo that we want to fill.

Step 4: Fill the outer area with black or white. Deselect the area.

Now you’re finished and have added a beautiful vignette to your photo! Here are some other examples.

Wrap Up Saturday!

0 comments

Hey everyone! Fran here to give you a quick wrap up of what happened on our CT Blog this week. We try to keep it hoppin' with new and fun stuff every week. I really hope you will participate, there are lots of fun things and fun PRIZES! Here's what happened the last few days...

Monday Makeover with Theresa

Theresa is inspiring us to make over a layout that we weren't completely happy with, even if it isn't that old! Sometimes a kit change makes all the difference! Post your layout links (old and new) in the comment section for that day and you will be entered to win a free kit! How inspiring is that?!?

Triple T Tuesday with Amanda

Do you know what the Triple T stands for? Why it's for Tutorials of course! Trixie's Tutorial Tuesdays! Amanda has an awesome trick for us when we don't have the best resolution photos. Usually I leave those aside as unscrappable. New life for new pics! I hope you can use this tutorial in your scrapping soon!

Wednesday with Bree

Bree snuck in this week and posted up a freebie. It's perfect for an iPhone background or if you don't have one, you could use it to jump start a badge album, they are the same size!

Challenge Thursday with Kris

Thursdays are for challenging and inspiring and this past Thursday was no different. Kris has a fun "recipe" challenge for you to participate in. I think she likes circles. Just sayin'! Make a layout using her really fun rules and post your layout link in the comments for that day and you too, my friend, may win a free kit from Trixie. How easy is that? If I weren't on the CT I'd be doing all these challenges right now! I love challenges, especially ones with a chance for a gift!!

New Release Friday with Lindsey

Trixie has a ton of fun stuff this week that she released yesterday. I just loved loved loved using Old Glory and I hope you can grab it and use it as well. It is really the most fun "America" kit I have used in a long time. She also released My Summer Garden, which was your kit from the Request Saturday a couple weeks ago. You guys chose the swatch and Trixie had a fun time creating that kit and eating her veggies! ;) And I had fun scrapping the awesomely large veggies from Epcot with it! You can scroll down to yesterday's post to check that out!

Keep an eye on the Scrap Stars, we always have something fun up our sleeves!!

LOTS of new stuff this week! Check it out:

Hello everyone! What a fun week I've had getting these new things ready for you! I'm so proud of the kits I'm bringing to my shops this week. They both turned out better than I could have hoped. So, let's get right down to it and show you the new goods.... I apologize this is such a long post - there is just so much good stuff to tell you about! lol

First off this week, I'm showing off my newest collab. I've worked with Sarah Bennett on a collab once before, but we had so much fun last time that we decided to go for it again! With Independence Day coming up here in the U.S., we decided on an old fashioned Americana theme and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. There is a whole bundle of new goodies here - check out Old Glory:

The Scrap Stars have only just begun working with this fabulous bundle and already they are wow'ing me with awesome layouts!

Next, I am SO excited to show you my newest kit because this one was inspired by my awesome fans! Last month, my scrap stars offered up a choice of swatches on their blog for everyone to vote for, then I took suggestions for the theme. I really wanted to make something that my loyal customers were looking for and the swatch you all chose was just perfect for a gardening kit. So, I'm happy to introduce My Summer Garden:

I just couldn't stop playing with this one either, so I made an accompanying mini kit. For a limited time, you can purchase the bundle and get them together for the same price as the kit alone!

Or, you can get the mini kit individually as well.

Once again, the Scrap Stars have been hard at work with this kit and the layouts they've been cooking up are each unique and awesome in their own way! I love that a bunch of these layouts are photo-less and capture that "everyday slice of life" feeling. Check them out!

And my final new product this week is a great designer tool/commercial use product! Pattern Plates Vol. 2 is now available...

Finally, I've added some of my oldie-but-goodie products to my shop at Gotta Pixel this week - each of them is 30% off for this week only! This is what you will find for 30% off this week!

WHEW!! That was a lot of stuff for one tiny week! Enjoy all the new goodies - and have a SUPER weekend!

So, by random draw from yesterday's comments, the winners are.....

Shannon Hager and Scrappy Frog!!
Congrats, ladies! I will be emailing you a coupon code to pick up the kit for FREE!

And now, let's show off all those new goodies I mentioned!

Sneak peek - wanna win it??

28 comments
Hey everyone! I'm stopping in today with a sneak peek of a brand new collab I've done with Sarah Bennett! This kit, just like our first collab, Sunday Afternoon, turned out just gorgeous and stunning! I'm really pleased with it and I think you will be, too!

Would you like a chance to win the kit? All you need to do is leave me a comment today about your country's patriotic day - whether that be Independence Day here in the US, or some other holiday where you live, I'd like to know how you celebrate it! Being from the US, of course we celebrate the 4th of July. When I was a kid, we used to do a barbecue every year. Nowadays, Erick and I usually celebrate the day together doing something fun, and we usually try to take in a fireworks show in our area. I happen to LOVE fireworks and there is a pretty good annual show here on nearby Camelback Mountain. We'll probably try to take it in again this year!

So, without further ado, here is that sneak peek - leave me a comment and I'll announce one person to win the kit tomorrow!

Are You Up For a Challenge?

2 comments
Howdy everyone. Are you ready to be challenged? I think I've come up with a good one for you this week! Before we get started though, last week, our challenge included Erica's cool color wheel and using complimentary colors. We have a beautiful layout belonging to our winner Robin. Isn't it amazing??

Congrats on winning a free kit Robin. Enjoy!

So this week, I'm calling the challenge Kris' Favorite Things. Here's how it will work....

Take these things I love and find some way to incorporate them in your layout:

1. Circles! Your solid/patterned paper doesn't need to be cut in circles but your photos do.
2. NO TITLES - I believe some layouts are just better without them and they can just take up space. Locations and dates are fine. Let your pictures do the talking.
3. Stitching somewhere...I think for me, it will just never go out of style.
4. Bling - It can be a lot or a little. Glitter, rhinestones, whatever. It just adds zing, even with boys.

That's it! Easy right? Here's what I came up with using the Trixie Scraps/Sarah Bennett Collab Sunday Afternoon

And some of the girls from the team played along, too... check out these inspiration layouts!

Jen completed the challenge using the Icy Days Mini Kit and other various elements from some of Trixie's kits.

Trixie also decided to play along and used My Summer Garden being released this Friday.

You have one week to complete this challenge - please leave a comment on this post with a link to your finished layout! Next week, we'll choose a winner from among the completed layouts who will receive a FREE kit of their choice from Trixie's store! The winner will be announced next week, along with our next challenge. See you then and have fun playing along!
