Special Request Saturday & Wrap Up!

Welcome back to Special Request Saturday! If you have been following along this month, you know that July has been very exciting. This month we have been building a kit with Trixie Scraps- all based on YOUR ideas from the color swatch right down to the alpha. And what great ideas have come flooding in! Today, I am back with a teaser of what your collective creativity has inspired. The suspense is palpable! Is everyone ready?
But first a little recap of the July Build a Kit's journey:

First things first, we needed a swatch.

This was the stunning result of your ideas.

Next up was a theme to build the kit around. The winning theme was a "tropical cocktail party" theme. So perfect for scrapping summer vacations as well as a night out on the town.

Finally, we asked for paper patterns and element ideas. Here the creativity really got flowing! Thanks for all your ideas and input that went into the design of this kit- built specially by YOU! The best part is that 5 of you lucky readers who pitched in an idea or two has a chance to WIN this kit for FREE! (and not to worry, if you aren't selected as one of the 5, you still get an extremely generous prize from Trixie herself- so everyone is a winner!)

Why a teaser you may ask? Well, I'm sure you all remember Trixie's Hard Drive Crash of 2010, this really set her back in the creating process, so because of that, we're holding out until Friday so that you can see the entire kit in it's glory! The Stars are so excited to play with it, and I'm sure you all are excited to see what you've inspired! Don't worry! We'll be announcing the 5 lucky winners next week as well! So hold on to your seats one more week!

Thanks for playing along with us this month!

Whew, what a busy, fun month we have had here at Trixie Scraps. Here is a little recap of our last week on our blog. (Remember that there are still open challenges that you can join in on to win free products and incredible coupons to Trixie's Store.)

Monday we were privileged to see Sandy's and Sharon's latest hybrid exploits- making a personal journal, a reusable coffee cup insert and a pop out frame using Trixie's adorable kit "Nature Girl." If you missed it, you will want to head back and check it out! I seriously envy these girls' creative juices.

Tuesday was a treat from Amanda instructing us on how to touch up a photo with sepia tones using a solid color layer and a blending mode. I love the effect she creates and can't wait to use it on my next layout!

Wednesday's "Who Are You?" interview gave us a little insight into the life of our very own CT member Fran. Very interesting read, to say the least. Don't forget, all Trixie fans that post their layouts in the Scrap Matters gallery or here on the blog are game for the spotlight! (with your permission and input, of course.) Bree also tried to call some last minute attention the CT Call we're having and also offered a Freebie badge album QP/iPhone Wallpaper

Thursday, Carrin challenged us all to lift a layout from the Trixie Scraps Gallery. This challenge is still open so hop to it for a chance to win a free kit from Trixie!

Friday brought us a desktop freebie from the talented Erica. This is one perk of digital scrapbooking that I personally love, the ability to beautify my computer screen. Go grab it here for free!

And that wraps up our week. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for all the new excitement to come with August! Happy Day everyone.

Challenge Thursday - Spinalift!

Happy Challenge Thursday, Trixie Scraps' fans! It's Carrin, here with this week's edition. Before we get into that, let's take a look at last week's challenge and our wonderful winner! Sharon challenged us to use a certain font on our pages...take a look at this layout by Amy using Saffron Blues.

Congrats, Amy you are our winner...keep an eye on your email for a special something from Trixie!

Onto this week's challenge. I personally love to troll around in various galleries when I feel myself lacking a little bit in the creativity department. So, I decided to make that your challenge for this week. I want you to head on over to Trixie's designer gallery at Scrap Matters, choose a layout and lift it. Now, I don't want it to be any ordinary lift. I want you to spin can flip it, you can turn it upside down, you can rotate it or even make it slightly askew. Whatever you think works the best with the layout you choose. It's all up to you.

Here's some inspiration from me to get you started. I chose to lift this layout by *Kelly*...

and came up with this, using My Summer Garden.

I can't wait to see the pages you all choose to lift! You have until next Wednesday evening to complete you page and come back here with a link so we can all see your beautiful creation. Please remember to create your layout using Trixie Scraps products for it to count! One lucky winner will be chosen from all entries to win a free kit from Trixie's shop!

20 Questions with Fran

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Stacy here with a super fun edition of Who Are You Wednesday. I had a lot of fun with this interview, and I hope you will enjoy reading it. So get's time for 20 questions with FRAN!!!

1. Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Chicago. My husband is from Kokomo, IN, so I live here now.

2. List 5 words that describe you.
Only 5?? Sarcastic, ornery, kind, thoughtful and amusing.

3. How long have you been scrapping?
I probably started digital scrapping in 2006. I paper scrapped for a few years prior to that, but my paper layouts were still very beginnerish.

4. How long have you been on Trixie's team?
I think I joined late last summer... maybe in autumn, so closing in on a year.

5. What is your favorite Trixie product?
Um all of them? No? Probably Sunday Afternoon... maybe. Maybe not.

6. What are your favorite elements to use?
I've been clustering a lot lately, so various ribbons, straight and curly, and flowers and other doodads you can cluster with.

7. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert. Without the internet I would be lonely.

8. What other hobbies do you enjoy?
There are others? I used to do things like cross stitch, but I never do them anymore so I sold all my supplies on EBAY! WOO! Sold my paper scrap stickers too.

9. What's the last book you read? Was it any good? (I'm always looking for new books LOL)
I picked up Turkey Day Murder by Leslie Meier and finished that a day or two ago. I moved into another book by that author Christmas Cookie Murder. Food and murder go well together.

10. What is your favorite song? What song makes you go YUCK and change the radio station?
I feel so out of the loop. Living in the middle of nowhere, we don't have many options to listen to, so we usually end up listening to a classic rock station that plays mostly rock from the 80s, which is what I grew up with so that suits me fine. But when I put on music, it's usually Disney songs from movies (not teenager stuff) or Broadway songs. And I sing along.

11. What was your favorite subject in school?
I was a math geek.

12. When do you find time to scrap? What do you listen to while you are scrapping?
When do I not find time to scrap? Although I never watch tv, my family is full of tv addicts, so I usually hear tv while I scrap.

13. What's your favorite snack?
All of them.

14. Hollywood is making a movie about your life. Who is playing you?
The most gorgeous blonde out there... skinny one too!... I'm so out of touch, I don't know any current popular ones.

15. Have you ever taken the Pepsi challenge?
Yes, yes I have. You get a cracker between drinks.

16. What's your favorite ride at Disney World?
My favorite attraction is not a ride, it's a 3D movie, Philharmagic. It starts with Mickey and his symphony band, which he magically plays with his sorcerer's hat. Donald has to set up the instruments and troublesome duck that he is, he puts on the hat and ends up in many different worlds of other Disney characters and songs. You go to the Beast's castle for dinner and Lumiere sings and the dishes dance and apple pie is scented in the theater and champagne corks pop. Then you go to Fantasia and the walking brooms with pails of water and they keep stepping on poor Donald and then he finds a baby broom and he's gonna bully it and then it's mother shows up and splashes us. Then we are under the sea with Ariel and she reaches out to grab us and throws precious gems at us. Then Donald kisses an electric eel trying to kiss Ariel. Then he heads to Africa and Simba can't wait to be king. Donald gets tossed around by the large animals for a bit. Then he goes to London and sees Peter Pan and can't fly... he's a failure at duck... so he needs pixie dust and then end up in Agraba on a flying carpet and they go through the streets and he hits fruit and it flies at us and he ends up in women's clothing. Then the hat he's been looking for ends up on Jasmine and Aladdin's flying carpet, they are singing of course... and Jasmine is nice and gives it back to Donald. Then he time warps back to the stage with Mickey and he gets stuck in a tuba and gets tossed to the back of the theater. Then he gets stuck in the wall, says "uh oh" and falls. Was that more than you wanted to know?

17. What chore do you absolutely hate to do?
All of them, but dishes especially.

18. Be you read the covers of the National Enquirer while standing in line at the grocery store?
I may look at the covers briefly, but my hub does most of the grocery shopping.

19. What's better...a snake in the grass or snakes on a plane?
There's a snake in my boot.

20. What is your dream vacation?
Going to Europe and visiting real castles.

Please show us some of your favorite layouts.

(scrapped with Old Glory bundle)

(scrapped with Spring Days mini kit, Foam-abet: Basic Spring alpha pack, and Sunday Afternoon collab)

I hope you enjoyed spending some time with Fran! Until next time, happy scrapping!

Triple T Tuesday

Welcome back scrappers! Today we are going to learn how to give our pictures a sepia look using a solid color layer and blending modes.

First thing we need to do is pick out a picture that we want to give a sepia look. Open it up in your photo editing software. I use Photoshop Elements 5.0, so the screenshots will be from that program. After you have your picture open, go ahead and make a duplicate copy of it so you don't accidentally save over top of the original.

Convert the duplicate copy of the picture to black & white. If you need help on how to do that check out this post on Trixie's Scrap Stars blog.

Next we are going to find a brown that we like. I went ahead and used the brown from the kit I planned on using to scrap my picture. Select your Eyedropper Tool ("I" in PSE 5.0) and pick up the color you want to use. You can also just click on the foreground color and play around with picking a color there, too, if you don't have a brown you want to use.

Now go to your picture and create a new layer.

Click on the Paint Bucket Tool ("K" in PSE 5.0) and fill the new layer with the brown.

Next go to the blending modes menu and choice Color.

You can leave the opacity at 100% or layer it on top of a color copy and lower it a bit to let more of the colors from your picture show through.

100% Opacity

65% Opacity

Here is a layout I did using Trixie Scraps & Sarah Bennett's Old Glory and Old Glory Bonus Alphas. I layered the sepia picture over top of the color picture and lowered the opacity a bit so more of the color would show.

Here is another one using Trixie Scraps Lovey Days and Love Me Some White Space 1 templates.

We're back with more kit building excitement! In case you haven't been around and are curious what is going on, you, our fans have picked the color swatch for the kit and the theme for the kit. Today I was planning to show you a preview of what this kit is starting to look like, but Tracy has suffered a hard drive crash that has set her schedule back a bit. So, unfortunately I don't have an in-progress preview for you today as planned, but Trixie will post one just as soon as she can! Keep checking back!

Meanwhile, this week, we want to know what type of alpha you would like to see in the kit - paper, metallic, glossy... type of font, etc. You can also continue suggesting elements and/or paper patterns. And, if you would like to see any "add-on" products, suggest those here as well! Trixie is going to have a busy week, pulling things from all your great suggestions and finishing up this kit. It's going to be awesome! Next Saturday, we'll come back and show you the finished kit and any add-on products Trixie may have made. AND, we'll be announcing five winners of the kit! Feature Friday

Welcome to Feature Friday. We've decided to change things up a wee bit around here. Since this is the Scrap Stars blog, we want Feature Friday to feature all the incredible layouts and projects the Scrap Stars do with Trixie Scraps new releases for the week. So, the new release post with all the info will still be available at the Trixie Scraps Design Blog. Here, you'll find all the coordinating eye candy.

This week, Trixie Scraps is releasing a new collab bundle with BellaGypsy called Safron Blues. You can catch a full preview of it on her blog HERE. Here are some of the layouts the team did with this beautiful kit. Prepare yourself. They're amazing!

New Release 7/23 - Collab with Bella Gypsy!!

Hello savvy scrappers! Hope you're having a fabulous week. I've got to say, it has been unusually HOT and humid here on top of the Pocono Mountains. We've been running the air conditioning constantly, which is a bummer for the electric bill, but what can you do? The good news is that its been so hot outside, I just want to be indoors, hiding from the heat... and that means lots of good designing time!

This week, I have a brand new collab bundle releasing with the talented team of Bella Gypsy. I love their style and they were so much fun to work with! Though the kit is full of flowers and was designed with girls in mind, the colors & supporting elements in the kit lend themselves well to photos of your little boys, too - and my Scrap Stars proved that this kit is very versatile - make sure to check out the Feature Friday post on their blog today to see all their layouts! The bundle and individual pieces will all be on sale for 25% off, this weekend only! Without further ado, here is a look at the new kit and bundle - Saffron Blues!

The bundle is a fabulous steal at just $7.49 for a limited time only - it includes the full kit (25 papers, 42 elements and 2 unique alphas - one in four different colors!); a set of four 12x12 page templates (CU OK, too!); coordinating wordart; and a set of shabby, wonderfully worn solid papers!

Here is a close-up look at the pattern papers and elements - be sure to check out one of my stores for a closer look at all the pieces!

And here are just a few of my favorite layouts the Scrap Stars have made with the kit - there are bunches more to see on their blog!

I also have a brand new set of blogwear releasing this week - the fabulously talented Carrin has designed a beautiful set of seaside-inspired blogwear using my Oceanside kit... this set might just be my favorite yet! It includes 3 background choices, 3 unique headers, two different post dividers, 4 sidebar labels and detailed installation instructions for the Blogger blog platform.
You can see the blogwear in use on the Oceanside Demo Blog!

That's it for this week! Yesterday was my husband's birthday and I surprised him with news of a weekend getaway to Pittsburgh - so we'll be away on a little mini vacation this weekend. I've never been to Pittsburgh before, so I'm very excited about it! I hope you have a great weekend, too!

Challenge Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday challenge aka known as a fabulous way to win a kit from Trixie Scraps! Last week, Jen shared with us a wonderful template and the lucky winner from last week's challenge is r0binb. She used the template and Trixie Scraps Defining Me and Oceanside kits to create a wonderful memory of her FIL. Congrats r0binb and be sure to check your email for your special prize!

This week, we're going to take a look at fonts. I LOVE fonts and there are tons of places on the web with a fabulous selection of them. One of my favorite places is Kevin and Amanda. They have tons of fonts to choose from.

One of their top ten fonts and one of my favorites is Baby Bowser. The script font can be used for titles and journalling. Click on the link to download the font and don't forget to check out the hundreds of other fonts on the site

Your challenge this week is to use the font in a layout using Trixie Scrap products. Here are some examples using some upcoming and recent Trixie Scrap releases

Using Nature Girl, the font title is duplicated and slightly overlapped to give it further dimension

Here are two layouts using font with Saffron Blues, an upcoming release with Bella Gypsy.

You have until next Wednesday evening to complete this challenge.
Don't forget to leave us a link to your layout in the comments section to this post.

Trends Tuesday!

Hello Fantastic Fans!
I hope you're having a fantastic Tuesday! I know today is stressful for me, as my hubby is having surgery on his back, but really, we're so excited! He's been down and out for over 3 weeks!

Today I'm going to go over something I mentioned in a post a few weeks back {durring the interview of Trixie} about Oobs.

What are oobs?

Well, it has been an joke on the Stars team for quite some time. And one day we found that Oobs can also be a scrapping term! GO FIGURE! We thought we were just nuts! So, if you're a scrapper, Oobs means Out Of Bounds. Its a fancy technique on how to get your pictures to come to life almost! It's amazing, and in all honesty, I've NEVER been able to feel like I could achieve it.
Mostly, because I STINK at extraction. I have no patience for it!

But after some fantastic google searching {Try: Adobe Photoshop Extraction Tutorial} I saw several video tutorials on how to extract.
I'm sure it just takes patience.Smiley

Try searching with your program name in there too. There are hundreds of tutorials out there!

But basically, the idea is to make one part of your picture seem like it is coming OUT of the picture. Does that make sense?

Here is a great example of an out of bound layout!

Here Carrin cropped the photo shorter, but left the lighthouse the original size, and made it come out of the photo!
Using Oceanside kit

Jen used Sk8ter Boy

Now with all this talk of oobs, I feel like giving it another shot. What about you? Wanna try it with me?

One last thing, I've got a freebie for you today as well. It's an iPhone wallpaper OR a Badge album quickpage. Your pick! Smiley

I used Daisy Crazy by Trixie Scraps and Madame Wing for this one! Smiley

Have a great day! Thanks for swinging by! Smiley

Makeover Monday

Welcome to Makeover Monday! This will be a bi-monthly feature here on our team blog where we'll encourage you to dig through that hard drive and find a layout you don't like so much, then give it a FABULOUS makeover using Trixie Scraps Designs products!

So, here's how this will work... every two weeks, we'll be challenging you to makeover a layout with us. We encourage you to make a new layout using the same photos and at least 75% Trixie Scraps Designs products. Then, come here to our blog and post two links for us - one to the old layout and one to the new one! Every two weeks, we'll choose one person who will win a FREE kit from Trixie's shop. Sounds fun, right??

So, since I am the host this week, I decided to makeover this layout:

This is a layout I made for one of my first ever challenges over at Scrap Matters. It uses Trixie's "All Together" Mini Kit and two photos of my two favorite little people. I made it for a calendar and have since decided that I cropped the photos far too much for my taste (hooray for digital scrapbooking! I still have the full photos!) So now, here is the brand new layout highlighting one of my favorite close-ups of this little girl. (This layout was made with Trixie Scraps "Nature Girl" Pack)

Now it is your turn- please join me in the makeover challenge - you never know, you might just win a free kit from Trixie Scraps! Have fun!
