Feature Friday - New Releases 12/31/10!

Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I'm going to keep my chatter to a minimum today because I'm here briefly in between cooking for my New Year's Eve celebration! We're in Kansas this week, enjoying some time with my relatives. I hope you and yours have a great (but safe!) time tonight!

This week, I have a few new things in my stores. Everything is 20% off through the weekend in every one of my stores, so shop in your favorite place and you need not worry you've missed a better "deal" elsewhere! Also, make sure you read to the end of this post where you'll find a freebie! Wishing you all a prosperous, happy and Healthy 2011!!

A Vintage Holiday - this beautiful holiday kit was previously available as a Daily Download on our team blog. But, if you missed it there, you can now purchase it from any one of my stores. It contains 16 papers, 50 elements and 1 full alpha, too!

Available at Trixie Scraps * Scrap Matters * Gotta Pixel * Scrapbook Bytes * Funky Playground

My Just Like Dad collection began as individual pieces earlier this month in the Grab-a-Byte sale. Those pieces have now been bundled into a kit, and the kit has become a collection with the addition of element clusters, wordart, quickpages and blogwear. Plus, the alpha from the kit is available individually, as I figure its a great basic staple to match up with the boy kits already in your stash! Once again, everything is 20% off only through the end of this weekend!

Hello friends! It's Trixie Scraps Star merchi aka Karen here! I hope you had the most wonderful of Christmas's ever!
I can't believe it is the end of 2010 and the beginning of a brand new year! I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for 2011.

If you're anything like me, you're going to love what I've created especially for you...

I LOVE to change my desktop each and every month, crazy, I know! Usually I find a pretty one online somewhere and just pop in photos, it's really easier than it sounds, honest!

This month, I decided to use the new A Vintage Holiday from Trixie Scraps to create a lovely desktop for January...and to share it with you! Have you seen the new kit? OMGoodness it is amazing! You will love it! Here's a preview:

<--link to store here-->

Since everyone has a different sized desktop, I created this one in three sizes, hopefully one will fit your needs... All three sizes, 1280x1025, 1280x800 and 1024x768 are included in the download.

Here is what it looks like:

Triple T Tuesday and Daily Download

Hello Trixie fans! Scrap Star Trista here! Let's talk chalk!

It is fairly simple to create a chalked edge look in Photoshop. Please note that I am using Photoshop 7 and am not exactly sure of how this translates in other programs. Today we are going to add a chalked edge to a paper strip to give it a worn look.

1. Be sure the item you want to apply chalk to is on a separate layer.
chalk1.jpg
2. Click on the effects button - aka "Add a layer style icon" (black circle with an f in the center) in the bottom of your layers palette.

3. Select the Inner Glow option. A new menu will appear.
chalk2.jpg
4. Adjust the settings to achieve the desired look.
  • Color - Select any color for the chalked edge
  • Opacity - Adjust how visible the chalked edge will appear
  • Noise - Adjust the amount of texture (more noise increases the grainy appearance)
  • Source - Select Edge
  • Choke - Adjust the base (or boundaries) of the chalked edge
  • Size - Adjust the amount of the chalked edge to blur.
Easy Peasy right? Here is the end result using the settings from above.

Today I want to encourage you to spend some time looking back at 2010. Create a layout that documents what you've done this year, what you've accomplished, and where you've been! This can be a photo montage page or you can feature a family photo and lots of journaling, or even a photoless layout. This is also a great time to make sure that all of your photos are backed up!

Sunday Spotlight

How was your Christmas?! I hope you all had a wonderful day and got everything on your wish list. Today I have chosen one my favorite people EVER to spotlight. I have been blessed to have such an amazing friend live close to me that helped get me into digital scrapbooking and now together we are on two different creative teams, one of which is the talented Trixie Scraps. So here is a little something about my 'bestie' Kris:

1. Tell us something fun or unique about yourself?
I'm a classically trained violinist that has played professionally and has a 227 year old violin.

2. How did you find Trixie Scraps?
I found Trixie Scraps through my good friend Erica.

3. What do you scrap about?
I scrap about moments, about emotions, about traveling, about my kids, about whatever!

4. What inspires your layouts, ie: templates, others galleries, kits, etc?
Templates for sure. I live for them. I can be creative once I get an initial idea.

5. Why do like digital scrapbooking?
No mess, no pressure, thinner books that take up less room when you're done, I like being on the computer, and it's so much cheaper!

6. What kind of music do you like?
Almost everything except rap. I like pop, alternative, gospel, country, rock, etc.

7. What is one thing you love about where you live?
Being so close to so many cool things. I'm within 45 minutes of professional sports teams, the theater, the beautiful mountains, beautiful farmland, sunshine almost all the time, and pretty decent weather. (OK, that was more than one thing.)

8. Besides scrapbooking, what are some other interests you have?
Girls nights, crocheting, movies, getaways with the hubs, traveling, singing, board games, cooking...I could go on and on.

Here are a few of Kris's favorite layouts using some of Trixie Scraps wonderful products:

Using City Girl by Trixie Scraps

Using Bring on the Rain by Trixie Scraps

Using Love of a Lifetime by Trixie Scraps

Now Tracy most graciously gave you the download links to her latest kit "A Vintage Christmas", but we are still finishing out the month giving you fun things to go with the kit. Today I have a template for you. Enjoy!!

Merry Christmas, everyone! Trixie Scraps here... I'm so happy to have the chance to drop in and wish you all a happy holiday, show off the Daily Download kit (and give part of it away), and also share a coupon code with you! Haven't the Scrap Stars done an amazing job with the Daily Download this month? Each piece has been fantastic - I'm so proud of them and so thankful to call them my team. They are the best!!

I sincerely hope you've been enjoying the downloads so far this month. As the Stars has been hinting, their downloads have been created with (or to coordinate with) a Special Request Sunday kit I created and then decided to hold onto to give out as a Christmas gift to all our readers. So, without further ado, I'm proud to show off "A Vintage Holiday." Special thanks goes to Dana (louvegas) for suggesting the fabulous color palette for this one!

Today's Daily Download freebie is the Papers and Alpha for this kit. Tomorrow, Bree will have the rest of the kit for you for Super Saturday! And keep checking back through New Year's Eve because there are a few more extra pieces to come from the Stars, too!

And before I go... I just want to take an additional minute to sincerely THANK each of every one of you for your business this year. It is such a blessing to me that I can do something I love, make a little money doing it, and be able to help out with our household bills. And I owe the thanks for all of that to all of you! So, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being so supportive of me and my designs. It means a lot! I have created a little coupon for you all, just in case you haven't had your fill of shopping quite yet this holiday season. You may use the code in any of my stores, as it will work for all of them - so, shop in your favorite place! December Daily - Your Favorite Holiday Movies

How DO I Do Those Double Pages...

Hello! How are you this fine December day? It’s Triple T Tuesday, and I’m merchi aka Karen here with some tips and tricks and a little freebie, too! I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season! I did most of my shopping on Black Friday, and now I’ve just some wrapping to do!

I’ve been asked to share how I create my two-page layouts. Well, way back when, shortly after I started digi-scrapping, I read a tutorial that talked of “flow”…that particular tut was referring to putting your pages together in a book, and how the colors, story or elements on each page should flow together. At the time, I was only doing single page layouts, and so I started mixing up my pages as if I was putting them in a book…looking for that flow. Pretty nearly at once I realized if I focused on “flow” I was losing the chronological order of my pages – well, I couldn’t have that! lol That is when I decided to do double-page layouts…so I could have the “flow” and not lose the chronological order of things.

Right, there’s some background for you… This is my typical procedure… I pick my photos and my kit and if I want to, I grab a template. Sometimes I use the same template on both halves, sometimes I use two different templates. If I want to use the same one, I will rotate or flip it for the second page so that they are not identical.
Here’s an example using City Girl and Renaissance Romance by Trixie Scraps:

As you can see, I’ve used pretty much the same papers and elements on both sides of the page, but they look a bit different because the one template has been flipped/rotated. Sometimes the flip is obvious as in the above example…and sometimes not so obvious as in the example below which uses the Trixie Scraps kit Autumn on the Lake:

And then a third option is to switch out the papers of the second page – you can do this whether you’ve used the same template or not. When using the same kit, why not get the most bang for the buck by using a variety of papers! If you like the stacked paper look for a background, simply rearranging the order of the stack can give a very different look to each side…see the two examples below…

I used Take Me Away to create this one:

This one was done with Sunday Afternoon

If you are using two different templates you don’t have to flip or rotate one…unless you want too! (And there will be times you’ll want too, but I’ll save that for another time.)

Once I have the general design of my page down, I move on to elements and their placement. Sometimes a ribbon or a scatter crossing from one page to the next is a nice way to tie the pages together. I generally using the same elements on both sides, with maybe one unique element added in on each side. If you look again at the above example, you can see what I mean.

I’m hoping that was clear and straightforward! If you have any questions, I’d love to hear from you…you can pm me in the ScrapMatters forum, and I’ll be happy to talk with you further!

And now on to the freebie I mention at the beginning… (did you think I forgot?) As you know, Trixie Scraps in hosting a December Daily Album with prompts and freebies everyday, all month long! I’ve been working on my album, and I LOVE it! If you are just learning about this, you’ll want to view this post for more information. To go along with all the freebies, here’s my December 21 Daily Download - a frame cluster created with a kit made especially for all the December Daily participants! Hope you enjoy it!

Download here – please remember, the link will expire in 48 hours.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

December Daily - Get Pictures With Santa!

We're down to the final days before the big night! Santa and his helpers are working overtime these days, so take advantage and set aside some time for a visit. Make sure you jot down how your kids felt about seeing the big guy - were they happy, scared, nervous, or fearless? Take pictures while you wait in line. Did they cry, try to run away, or did they talk Santa's ear off?

Make It Hybrid Monday

Happy Monday and welcome to another edition of Make it Hybrid Monday! The last two weeks of the year typically are a flurry of lots of baking and candy for me and today, we'll be looking at a quick and easy hybrid way to package up those treats for last minute gifts. You can use this technique with any digi kit and with any paper scrapbook supplies that you may be collecting/hoarding.

The only thing that you need in order to create a cute little pouch for your goodies is a square sheet of lightweight cardstock or double sided printed paper. In this example, I am using a paper from Trixie Scraps' upcoming mystery kit that you have been seeing the CT work with all month long. Fold your piece of paper diagonally in half and make sure that the points match as close as possible.

Once you've completed that fold, take one of the lower folded corners and fold it to the middle of the other side of your paper.

Repeat on the other side and take the other lower folder corner and fold it over to the middle of the other side of the paper.

Finally, take one layer of the top of your triangle corner and fold it down over the front. Attach with glue dots and other attachments as preferred. Decorate with embellishments and fill with treats. I created this with 2 papers from the upcoming mystery kit and printed them back to back to create double sided printed cardstock and one sided printed cardstock from the recent Trixie Scrap release Winter On the Mountain.

Here is your daily download freebie for the day- a sheet of tags to use for those last minute gifts. Click on the preview to download and don't forget that the links expire in 48 hours!

December Daily - Favorite Childhood Holiday Memory

My family moved from Texas to Alabama in the middle of my first grade year. Up until that point we had always celebrated Christmas with a huge extended family celebration, but moving so close to Christmas, we weren't going to be able to "go home" for the holidays. It was hard enough transitioning into a new school mid-year, but missing Christmas? I was so sad every day when I came home and saw the depressingly empty space under the tree that in years previous had been full of family gifts and cards.

Christmas morning was promising to be very sad as I missed my Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles, because I was convinced that they had forgotten all about us, living three states away. I remember waking up on Christmas morning and coming down the stairs. Our entire living room floor was completely covered in wrapped gifts and cards. It seems that Santa had made an extra effort to ease the transition for me by making sure that every single gift from Texas arrived and was placed lovingly under the tree.

At the time, the mountain of gifts was unbelievable, but over the years I realized that it wasn't the gifts that made me so happy. It was the love of family members that remembered me and cared enough to make what might have been a very difficult Christmas extra special!

What's your favorite childhood holiday memory? If you have a picture or two, great! Scan them and include them with your story. But don't let the lack of a picture slow you down, get your story told. Alternatively, you can do an interview with other family members about their favorite holiday memories.

Moving along, we had some great submissions to the Trixie Scraps Gallery this week! I'm excited to show them off to you!

Hey everyone! It's time once again for some new releases! I hope you have been having a less hectic, crazy holiday season than I have had. I swear, I feel like I will never catch up! But, I did get some amazing new products completed this week, so I have that to feel accomplished about, at least! So, let's get right to them! This week, my Winter in the Mountain pieces from the Gotta Grab It sale have been bundled into a collection, along with some new pieces, and it's all releasing in my stores - just in time for some last minute Christmas projects - or to get ready to scrap all those great photos you'll be taking on Christmas Day! You'll find all these products in my stores for 20% off this weekend - plus, each preview below is linked to my personal store, where everything will be 30% off, this weekend only!

First up is my new Winter on the Mountain bundle, which includes the full kit, the worn christmas plaid paper pack, and a beautiful set of element clusters for quick and easy gorgeous pages! Each of the pieces in the bundle is available individually as well.

Also new this week are four more fabulous pieces in the Winter on the Mountain collection! They include a beautiful set of Quickpages, a great blogwear set, and two versions of holiday cards, too!

And last, but certainly not least, I have an adorable new hybrid printable project for you, made by one of my Hybrid team members, Sandy. She came up with this adorable "Feel Better" set of jar/soup can labels and tissue pack covers in pink and blue. It was made from my full kit The Sneezin' Season. This cute little project might be the perfect pick-me-up for your next friend or loved one who comes down with a cold!

I'll leave you with a few of my favorite layouts from the team with the Winter on the Mountain collection. Each layout I've seen with this collection has been beautiful, the team has done a great job this week! Have a great weekend!
