Saturday With The Stars - Are You a Chicken?

So, North Meets South Studio released what is probably the most hilarious kit ever, Guess What? Chicken Butt!

nmss_gwcb_kit.jpg

I'll admit, I was a little concerned about the versatility of this kit until I started looking around at what the Stars created with it! Talk about creativity! You can use this kit for just about anything!

Take a look at this layout by Shauna. I love the funny story and the sweet picture of her dog.

ts-gwcb-copy.jpg

This one by Mary Kate is so punny! Love the title work on this one!

bockbockfun.jpg
GWCB2.jpg

Jessica caught some great shots of her kids acting like....chickens! The storytelling here is just fantastic!

Kassie used this kit to scrap pictures of her son enjoying a treat at McDonald's. I know I have some pictures like that!

McNuggets.jpg

And finally, this awesome boy page by Carrin all about her son's personality.

plucky-copy.jpg

It's amazing what you can scrap with this kit, so be sure to grab it soon and get some of your pictures scrapped!

Guess What? Check out this fun kit from Trixie Scraps and Connie Prince!

I've got a fantastic, fun new kit for you all this week. Connie and I took a customer request and turned it into the most off-the-wall, oddball kit I have ever done, or ever planned to do. But, we LOVED working on this one and had a blast with it! The kit is cheeky and funny and its all about....

THE CHICKEN!!

It's perfect for so much more than you might imagine on first glance. Our teams went crazy for this kit, submitting over 35 layouts to us ranging in topic from actual farm/chicken photos, to chicken dance photos... to people acting like chickens and people (or dogs) nicknamed chicken. We even got some obligatory pages with the Chick-Fil-A cows! If you stop and think about all the chicken (and egg) sayings and puns in our culture, you might just be shocked at how much a part of our society the humble chicken really is (I know we were)!

So, here is Guess What? Chicken Butt! in all its glory. It contains 23 papers, 57 elements and a full alpha and its on sale for 30% off for a limited time!

Here's a closer look at the pattern papers inside (it includes 7 coordinating solids, as well!)

Also new this week is a brand new 5x7 bragbook made from my "I'll Be There" collection. It will also be on sale for 30% off, for one week only.

And I have a freebie for you, too! I have created an add-on pack of gingham papers in each of the colors in the kit - it will help you stretch your stash and really get lots and lots of use from this kit! Cluck on over to my blog and you'll find the download. With that, have a GREAT weekend!

Challenge Thursday - Recipe Challenge

Hi all, Shauna here…are you ready for a recipe challenge?  I’m not much of a cook, but I can follow a recipe (well sometimes).  By nature I’m more of a white space layout person, but hopefully this recipe will let you create whatever kind of layout you love.

2 Papers
2 Photos
3 Ribbons/Rick Rack/String
3 Buttons/Brads/Staples
4 Flowers
4 Leaves

Now if you don’t want flowers/leaves, then substitute whatever type of elements you want.  Here is the layout I did using You Raise Me Up and the freebie alpha from Trixie’s Facebook Speed Scrap earlier this month.
TS-06-28-Challenge-copy.jpg

And here is a layout created by my fellow Star Mary Kate using Cops and Robbers.
TS%206-28%20CThurs.jpg

So now you need to get scrapping, then save and upload your layout to Trixie Scraps Gallery. By creating a layout using Trixie Scraps products, and uploading it to Trixie's Gallery,  your layout will be included in our weekly Show Off slide show, and you'll get a prize! Life is good!!!!

Howdy, blog readers!  It's Carrin here again, this time to bring you next month's desktop calendar freebie.  You should feel extra clucky lucky this time around because I got the go-ahead from Trixie herself to design this month's calendar using her upcoming collab with North Meets South Studios (you know the duo of Trixie Scraps and Connie Prince).  I personally have been scratching chomping at the bit a long time for this kit and I absolutely love what these ladies have pulled together.  I hope you like the calendar and come back on Friday to get a look at the entire kit.  Until then, I'll leave you with one burning question...what's up?????

Tip Tuesday: Using Page Starters

Good morning, blog readers! It's Carrin here with you today to bring you a quick little tip on how to use those gorgeous page starters that Trixie has made to coordinate with some of her kits. If you're anything like me, you've shied away from them for the sole reason of wanting to make the page your own. Well, I'm here to tell you that you can still achieve that sense of uniqueness by using the page starters as a stepping stone...and it may just save you some scrapping time, too!

You can do a number of things with these page starters. On this page, using Grand Day kit and page starters, I started by duplicating the flower cluster in the corners of the page starter, then I resized and duplicated the page starter itself, framed it and used it as part of the background of my page. I think it adds depth and interest to the page and lets the photo stand out!

Sometimes, I get a really big brain fart (don't we all?!?!) and really want to create some amazing clusters, but I just can't figure out how to get it right on my own. With this page, using Sunshine Day page starters and kit, I took the page starter, placed my photo on the page where I thought it looked best and then used the exact same elements that Trixie had placed in her cluster to create some depth. This may get a little tricky with shadowing the elements just right, but I think it was totally worth it!

Still not sure that using page starters is for you? Take a look at the step-by-step production of this page I did using the Roots and Branches page starters and kit. As I worked, I also added on the Pigskin Party add-on alphas.

1. Pick your page starter.  You may not know at the start exactly where you want to go with it, but that's okay...you can change it however you'd like as you go along!

2. I almost always start my layouts by adding on my photos. I wanted to try out the blending technique that Stacy showed us here and since the background paper is relatively solid, I figured I'd give it a go on this page.

3. Add whatever other photos you want and start layering on the elements. I shadow as I go along, so make sure you are paying attention to the direction/opacity of the shadows on your page starter to make sure your are consistent.  A note from Tracy herself on shadowing..."If your are using a Trixie Scraps page starter, I nearly always use a shadow angle of 43 and shadow color #2c1901 set to linear burn and lowered to somewhere between 40% and 65% opacity. The shadow depth and size would vary according to your preference for the element you are shadowing."

4. Once you're sure your clustering and element placement is the way you want it, start adding in your title, journaling and date.

5. Voila! Now you've got a really beautiful page that you made all on your own...with a little added help from the designer!

Please remember, these products are called page starters for a reason. They are created to give you a jumpstart on your layout, not take away your ability to make a unique page. I had a lot of fun trying out different things with this page, so know I'm definitely going to use these gorgeous beauties more often! As always, make sure you upload any layouts created with this tip to the Trixie Scraps gallery!

Saturday with the Stars - Sunshine Day

Hi all, Shauna here and today I’m going to show you some of the great layouts created by Trixie’s Scrap Stars using her newest kit Sunshine Day.  Now I am the first to admit that I love all of Trixie’s kits, but this one is really special.  I love the bright cheerful colors and it is perfect for so many types of layouts.  I know I’m going to be using it over and over in the future.  Here is a preview of the kit, but she has all kinds of extras, so make sure you check them out as well.

ts_sunshineday_kit_MED.jpg

First up I have one made by Carrin and I really love her clustering, that girl has some mad skills.  I also really like the mixed alphas on the title.  She used the alpha from Sunshine Day and the retired kit Daisy Crazy.
date-night-copy.jpg

Next is one by Stacy, I love her paper selections and the way she repeated the leaves and flowers.  I don’t know about you, but I love in digital scrapping I can reuse and element over and over.
mhtdesigns_unchanging%20ILMSSheri%20(600%20x%20600).jpg

Mary Kate’s layout just made me laugh!!! I love the photo and title so much. And I really like the black and white photo with the bright colors.
Sunshine%20Day.jpg

Next is Stacey’s layout and I loved how she did the journaling strips.  The layout has wonderful layering and tells such a cute story!!!!
inmygarden.jpg

Erica’s layout is just plain fun!  I love all the photos and how well she layered everything.  It was so fun reading the journaling about the snow boots.
Scooter%206-12.jpg

And last but not least is one by illustrious leader Ms. Trixie herself.  Not only is the girl a wonderful designer she is an awesome scrapper too!!!  I love her picture layering, I’m so jealous, I can never get that many photos on a page.  And I love the mix of framed and not framed photos.
again-copy.jpg

These are only a few of the layouts created by the team, so if you want to see more head over to the gallery and you will find lots of wonderful inspiration.
