Master's Monday: Handwritten Fonts

One thing I've always loved about scrapbooking is fonts. I'm not a fan of my handwriting, so I was thrilled to have so many options for my pages. As time went on and I've learned more about scrapbooking and I've realized just how important it is to include my own handwriting on my pages.

I'm not so great at the paper and pen journaling/diary keeping. I know it's important for future generations, I'm just not very good at doing it. This is why I journal on most of my scrapbook pages. I feel like I'm killing two birds with one stone with my scrapbooking. That being said, if my scrapbooks are serving as my journal, isn't it important to have my own handwriting on at least a few pages?

Some of you may be wondering how you get your handwriting onto your digital pages. The answer is simple. You simply create a font. And yes, it really is simple.

In my quest for ways to create my handwriting as a font, I've come across 3 ways to do this.

#1. The FREE Way
- In your internet browser go to www.myscriptfont.com
- There you will download a template that looks like this:
ScriptFontTemplate.jpg
- Fill in the template in your handwriting (I would suggest following the directions EXACTLY)
- Scan the template back into your computer and save
- Upload the template to the site
- In a few minutes you'll have a download link to save your handwriting as a font
- Install your font
- Use your handwriting on all your pages

Here's a snippet of the font I created using this site:

ShiloScript.png

#2. The $10 Way
- In your internet browser go to www.yourfonts.com
- Again you'll download their template
- Fill out their template
- Scan the template into your computer and save the file
- Upload the template to their site
- Download your new font
- Start using your font

This is the snippet of the font I created quite awhile ago using this site:

ShiloHand.png

I don't think I used the right kind of pen, so I have a few rugged edges with this font, but I still like it.

The 3rd option is quite a bit pricey, but it may be something to look into if you have a bunch of family members that you'd like to have fonts for or if you find you really just enjoy making fonts. It's a program called Font Creator and it's about $80.00. Like I said, pricey - but it may be something you've been searching for. I haven't gotten this program yet, because I'm still trying to decide if I'd use it enough to justify spending $80.00.

Some of the CT members had a few sites to add that they've come across to make fonts.

If you have an ipad, you should check out the app called iFontMaker and if you're really into creating your own fonts and you don't have the $80 to spend, check out FontStruct, it's free and it looks like a fun way to
make quite a few different fonts. Here's a little snippet of a font made with the ipad app:

So, now that you know how to get your handwriting made into a font - do it and start using them on your pages. Just like I did with this page I made using I'll Be There.

AlwaysThere600.jpg

*** Just a note (while I'm on the subject of my scrapbooking serving as my journal)...You'll notice that in this page I just put my Grandmother's last name initial. That is just for safety reasons on the internet. For my own personal uses and when I print it out I have a page with her last name. It is important to document details like that for future generations...***

Saturday With The Stars - One Haunted Evening Revisited

So here we are, the last weekend of October.  For me that means one thing: Halloween!  Now while the actual big day isn't until Wednesday, this weekend definitely rings in the festivities with parties and costumed events everywhere you look.  All of this Halloween spirit made me super excited to take a second look at the brand new Halloween themed kit released by North Meets South Studios this year, One Haunted Evening.

nmss_onehauntedevening_kit_MED.jpg

The elegant colors and elements in this kit make it extremely versatile, and our Stars truly proved that in our first look at this kit, but today I want to focus on those awesome Halloween layouts.  First off, we have a fun one by Shauna capturing some of her Halloween decor.  I love the contrast of the creepy skeleton photo surrounded by the floral cluster on her frame.  And those webs peeking out are just fabulous.

ts-ohe-copy.jpg

Next up is this neat one from Lori.  I love the stamped haunted house on that sparkly spider web background.  The few elements that she chose to add to the layout compliment the photo so well, and the banner along the bottom really ties them together.  The star cluster looks fantastic too.

Stacy has captured some gorgeous photos of her little girl all dressed up for Halloween.  Have you ever seen a more darling Snow White?  Her composition is just perfect, and I love the cutouts of patterned papers on the solid background.  Fabulous title work, and a couple of floral clusters round out the layout just perfectly.  Absolutely lovely.

hauntedevening.jpg

Halloween is a great time to monkey around, and Laina shows us just that with this adorable layout featuring her little monkey.  I love that she has managed to highlight so many photos on this page without it looking too busy or clustered.  By arranging all of the elements and photos vertically and leaving ample white space on the rest of the page the photos really remain the focus.  I really love the title work and the journaling she has included on this page too.

monkeybusines.jpg

Talk about four awesome layouts to put you in the Halloween spirit.  Lastly today I just had to feature one non-Halloween element.  This gorgeous layout by Carrin caught my eye in every gallery it was in.  The photos are just absolutely stunning, and as the tile implies, spellbinding.  The blended photo in the background is used to stunning effect, and she has added just enough clustering to the page to give it that special touch without drawing attention away from the photos.  Absolutely beautiful.

I hope you all enjoyed this second look at One Haunted Evening.  Be sure to go pick it up to scrap all of your special Halloween memories.

Thursday {Recipe} Challenge

Hello, Trixie fans, I am here today to bring you the Recipe Challenge for October. I must have drawn the lucky straw, because I happen to love Halloween and this time of year, so I am excited to host a Halloween themed recipe for you. I realize that you do not have Halloween pictures from this year, yet. But, if you are like me, I have a million still stacked up from last year, just waiting to be scrapped. For today's challenge, I put together the following recipe:

1 photo
4 papers
3 (or more) different elements
2 ribbons
and finally- (optional) use a Halloween themed kit, or some Halloween theme elements. Something to celebrate the haunting season. Here is my sample

Using One Haunted Evening by North Meets South Studios and the Witches Brew  Collab available at My Scrapbook Art through October.

Not too bad, right? Best of luck. I cannot wait to see some lovely layouts in the gallery to get me in
the Halloween mood. Till next time!

This has been a very busy week on the blog, so let's get started with your weekly review!

In case you missed it, Trixie Scraps Designs is in the designer spotlight at Gotta Pixel through October 26th! That means lots of freebies and sales:

trixie_30off_startOct17_endOct26.jpg

We all have them, taunting us, making us miserable - imperfect photos. That brilliant shot that was blurry or over exposed. The one photo that best defines a story to tell, but looks, well, not so great. This week Erica challenged us to look past the imperfections and scrap a story with an imperfect photo. Play along with your favorite Trixie Scraps products, load your page into the gallery and you could be a show-off and get a great prize!

There's lots of inspiration to be found in the Saturday with the Stars as we take a look back at layouts with with recent Trixie Scraps releases. Don't miss this if you need a mojo jumpstart!

We love learning about scrappers in the digi-community, so once a month we feature a scrapper who's pages find their way into the Trixie Scraps Gallery. This month our featured scrapper is Debora, AKA boba80. Learn a little bit about Debora and take a look at her awesome pages this month!

Oceanium-1.jpg

In this weeks Masters Monday you can learn all about siggy making. It's a quick, easy way to dress up your signature line in whatever forums you frequent around the digi community, and can even be used on your blog! Be sure to take a look and create your own custom siggy!

Have a great week!
